New to living in the UK? Welcome!
Life in the UK can be confusing at first. For a start, what’s with the two taps?
So, we’ve pulled together some of the best apps for navigating your first few months here (but not the taps, you’ll just have to get used to that).
From booking trains, bus to finding great hotels – if you’ve got a smartphone, we’ve got you covered:
Trainline
The UK has some incredible places to visit – and the trains are a great way to get around (and see the countryside on your way!).
Trains can be expensive – but if you book in advance with the Trainline you can get some great deals.
Citymapper
If you’re visiting some of the UK’s big cities, CityMapper is a great way to navigate. Simply put in your location, destinations and choose how you want to get there. The app does the rest.
It currently works in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Duolingo
This great app makes learning a new language (or improving your language skills) super easy. And if it’s not the one for you, check out our blog on the best language learning apps here.
Spare Room
Flatsharing is the best way to save money on rent. SpareRoom is the UK’s most popular site for finding a flat share – or new roommates.
Time Out
Time Out is a great resource for finding the best things to do nearby: restaurants, theatre and nightlife – all in one place.
SkyScanner
Whether you’re booking flights home, or taking a trip across the UK, (planes can be cheaper than trains for longer journeys) – make sure you use SkyScanner.
It compares all your options in one place – and makes sure you get the best deal.
Deliveroo
The UK has some of the best eateries in the world. And now, with Deliveroo, you can get your grub delivered.
This isn’t just normal takeaway food – so if you’re missing your home cuisine have a browse on the app to track down the best local restaurants.
Rolling out in cities across the UK.
And finally… TransferWise
If you need to transfer or receive money from abroad, TransferWise let’s you do it much cheaper than using your bank.
